Julie A. Churchill, DVM, PHD, DACVN

Dr. Churchill completed veterinary training at Michigan State University and residencies (Internal Medicine and Nutrition ) and her PhD at Univ. of Minnesota. She is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine-Nutrition. She is currently a professor and director of a nutrition residency at the University of Minnesota. She loves seeing patients in the clinic and mentoring students, and trying to find better ways to teach nutrition and make it easier for healthcare teams to integrate nutrition into the care of all patients.

Dr. Churchill serves as course coordinator and primary instructor for all small animal nutrition courses throughout all 4 years of the DVM curriculum. 

Dr. Churchill is passionate about all aspects of small animal clinical nutrition including the proactive role of nutrition in wellness and preventive care, obesity prevention and treatment, the nutrition needs of geriatric patients, nutritional management of kidney diseases, and critical care nutrition. She is also interested in teaching and improving client communication to successfully integrate nutrition into the care of every patient. She served on the task force to develop the AAHA guidelines for weight management. She serves on the executive board of the Pet Nutrition Alliance (PNA) to develop a” Go-to” website for credible nutritional information for veterinary practice teams. Dr. Churchill also serves on the Board of the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention and is a coauthor and advocate for a global pet obesity initiative, which has been endorsed by 23 veterinary professional organizations.
