World Pet Obesity Week 2025: Survey, Tools & Global Initiative
World Pet Obesity Week 2025
October 6–12, 2025
Obesity remains one of the most common, harmful, and complex health challenges facing both pets and people. World Pet Obesity Week (October 6–12, 2025) provides an opportunity to raise awareness about the risks of excess body fat and reinforce the importance of veterinary-led prevention, early recognition, and evidence-based care.
By completing and sharing the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention’s (APOP) annual Pet Obesity & Nutrition Opinions Survey and utilizing new clinical and pet owner resources, we can strengthen a One Health approach that improves outcomes for pets, supports families, and advances broader public health efforts.
Celebrating 20 Years of APOP
2025 marks the 20th anniversary of APOP’s founding. Over two decades, we have seen growing global recognition of pet obesity as a multifactorial, chronic disease, alongside advances in diagnosis, treatment strategies, and more respectful, consistent communication.
Our volunteers, clinical experts, researchers, and industry partners have worked to:
Reduce stigma and bias surrounding obesity
Promote evidence-based interventions
Develop practical clinical and at-home tools
Support veterinary teams in delivering consistent messaging
We look forward to continuing this work to extend longevity and enhance quality of life for the companion animals we serve.
New Free Tools & Resources
APOP and the World Pet Obesity Association continue to expand practical resources for veterinary teams and pet owners:
Daily Feeding Calculators – Estimate daily caloric needs to help dogs and cats maintain a healthy body condition.
Step Weight-Loss Calculator – Guides veterinary teams through safe, gradual weight loss programs.
Pet Weight Check Estimator – Provides breed-specific weight ranges with a simple three-step check for owners.
Multilingual Body Condition Score (BCS) Charts – Standardized 9-point charts for dogs, cats, rabbits, and horses.
Daily Energy Needs (DER/MER) Calculator – Supports accurate feeding plans by life stage and activity level.
Social Media Toolkit – Shareable graphics and handouts available at WorldPetObesity.org.
Body Condition Score (BCS) Charts
Standardized 9-point BCS charts support consistent assessment and clear communication during exams, client education, and weight-management planning. Charts are available through both APOP and the World Pet Obesity Association, with multilingual translations hosted at WorldPetObesity.org.
