The Association for Pet Obesity Prevention (APOP) is recruiting clinics for its 2026 Veterinary Clinic Pet Obesity Prevalence Survey, open October 1 through December 31. Pick one full clinic day, two days, or one week and record weight, a veterinary-assessed body condition score, and the owner’s initial weight perception for every eligible dog and cat seen for wellness, minor medical, or boarding intake. Most entries take about one to two minutes.

Qualifying U.S. practices receive a $50 stipend for staff time after submitting at least 15 complete, eligible records and passing APOP’s data review. Clinics that submit data also receive a 2026 APOP Prevalence Partner badge and early access to the findings.

Eligible records
All consecutive eligible, skeletally mature dogs and cats seen for wellness, minor medical, or boarding intake. Skeletally mature is defined as 12 months of age or older, recognizing that large and giant breeds may not reach maturity until 18 to 24 months and that clinical judgment applies.
What clinics record
Species, sex, reproductive status, age, weight, visit type, veterinary-assessed 1–9 body condition score, and the owner’s initial weight perception, which is recorded before the clinical assessment. Photo submission is optional.
Time required
Each electronic entry takes about one to two minutes.
Clinic stipend
Licensed U.S. practices receive $50 after at least 15 complete, eligible records pass APOP data review. One payment is available per physical clinic location. Clinics unable to accept the stipend under employer or institutional policy may decline it at registration, and APOP will make an equivalent donation to Morris Animal Foundation.
Recognition
Every clinic that submits data receives the 2026 APOP Prevalence Partner badge and early access to the findings.

The clinic stipend is compensation for staff time, is limited to one payment per physical clinic location, and is not tied to the body condition results reported. Payment is issued after APOP data review according to the full terms on the clinic registration page. Clinics unable to accept the stipend under employer or institutional policy may decline it at registration, and APOP will make an equivalent donation to Morris Animal Foundation.
